The devices of well testing measurements can be divided into two large groups:

  • Downhole tools like

mechanical and electronic P and T meters, samplers, DST tools

  • Surface equipment like 

winch and its apparatuses (lubricator, BOP), production system and its apparatuses (ESD system, cables, separator, containers, flare system as well as apparatuses and measuring devices

Downhole test tools:

It is practical to perform pressure transient tests only using high resolution electronic pressure gauges – by the parallel incorporation of the two devices. By the parallel incorporation of the two devices, troubles arising from the possible instrument failures can be reduced, thus, the number of unsuccessful measurements decreases as well. During measurements using electronic measuring devices, measurement record contains values of pressure and temperature measured continuously vs. relative time. Electronic devices must be programmed in the most optimized way according to the provisions of measurement plans. Properly programmed devices increase the professional processing of measurement results. Currently, the limit of application of available electronic devices is 200 °C.

Surface test tools:

In the production tube of the production well, the multi-phase material flow streaming upwards leaves the well passing through the wing valve. Afterwards, it passes through the ESD gate valve, the first element of the production equipment of the well district. The ESD gate valve is the main stop fitting of the technology, which can be shut and opened in a local mode and can only be shut in a remote control mode but cannot be opened. The multi-phase product flows from the ESD gate valve to the first heated pipe segment, from there to the first ‘data header’ and then to the choke manifold. The first heated pipe segment is the most relevant element of technology from the aspect of heat input; this must be exposed to the entire heat need of the technology or is highest possible share. The source of heat energy is a heater car or heater. The first ‘data header’ allows the measurement of characteristic value of the state mainly of the wellhead that is wellhead pressure and wellhead temperature, furthermore, the material identification of well stream in addition to its well head characteristic values. The ‘choke manifold’ is a tool for quantity regulation of well stream by fix chokes. It allows the adjustment of fix chokes on demand without the need to stop the stream meaning shutting the well. If required, it provides the option of bypassing fully the fix chokes in question.
